These photographs were taken of the Bethlehem Steel Blast Furnaces which are probably the most dramatic remnant of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. Before closing its doors the Bethlehem Steel Corporation at one point was America’s second largest steel producer and the largest ship builder. The preserved Blast Furnaces serve as a reminder of how the Bethlehem Steel helped shape our country by producing steel for some of our most famous landmarks (Golden Gate Bridge, Rockefeller Center, the Hoover Dam) and naval ships ( USS Northampton, USS Massachusetts and USS Lexington). These towering giants now serve as a focal point for the Bethlehem SteelStacks which is a ten-acre campus dedicated to the arts, live music concerts and family events.
